Vellum is a Freemium app developed by Dawnshard Software, LLC. This service is provided "AS IS" and is intended for use as-is.
This page is intended to inform users about our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information for anyone who chooses to use Vellum.
Vellum collects minimal personal information. Your account is managed through Clerk (authentication provider). Your stories and characters are stored on our servers (Convex). We do not sell, share, or monetize your personal data. Story content you create is private to your account.

Story content sent to AI providers is used solely for generating your requested content. We do not use your stories to train AI models. However, third-party AI providers may have their own data retention and usage policies as described in their respective privacy policies linked above.
Third-Party ServicesVellum uses the following third-party services that may collect information:
Your account data and story content are stored on Convex's servers. Data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Your authentication is managed securely through Clerk with Sign in with Apple. Local preferences (such as onboarding completion status) are stored on your device using standard iOS storage.
While we employ reasonable measures to protect your data, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
Data RetentionYour story data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account through the app, all associated data (stories, characters, chapters, and story memory) is permanently deleted from our servers. Local device preferences are removed when you uninstall the app.
Purchase InformationSubscription and credit pack purchases are processed through the Apple App Store and managed by RevenueCat. We do not directly collect or store payment information such as credit card numbers. RevenueCat receives a user identifier to manage your subscription and credit balance. For details on how purchase information is handled, refer to Apple's Privacy Policy and RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
Opt-Out & Data DeletionYou can delete your account and all associated data at any time through the app's settings menu (gear icon on the home screen). This action is permanent and cannot be undone. Alternatively, you can contact us at info@dawnshardsoftware.com to request data deletion.
Children's PrivacyVellum is rated 17+ and is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 17. If we discover that a child under 17 has provided us with personal information, we will promptly delete it. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at info@dawnshardsoftware.com.
Changes to This Privacy PolicyWe may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Your continued use of Vellum after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
